Grand Master Shu-Ton (Tony) Yang
is of Chinese
descent, born and raised in Taiwan. He has been studying martial arts for over
40 years. His specialties include Baji, Praying Mantis, Tai Chi, Hsing-I, and
Bagua.
He
began studying at age 6 under the instruction of his uncle, a martial arts
master. He learned Northern Shaolin and three-section staff. During high school
he studied Tang Lang Quan (Praying Mantis Kung Fu). He then moved to Taipei and
became a student of Grandmaster Su Yu-Chang, of the Praying Mantis system. It
was Grandmaster Su who introduced Master Yang to Grandmaster Liu Yun Chiao. For
two years, he studied under both teachers and then became solely a student of
Grandmaster Liu. During this time he practiced Tai Chi, Baji, Praying Mantis,
and various weapons. He also received personal instruction from Grandmaster Liu
in Bagua, Pigua, Mizong, Baji and numerous weapons. Grandmaster Liu learned his
Baji from Master Li Shu Wen. At age 24, he was allowed by Grandmaster Liu to
teach martial arts, a high compliment indeed. He was soon instructing at five
colleges, teaching classes in Tai Chi and Praying Mantis. During this time of
intense dedication and training, he also taught Tai Chi and sword to elderly
students at a mountain temple. Before coming to America, he taught the Chinese
Acrobats of Taiwan for four years.
The Oriental Martial Arts College, Chong Moo Branch, offers classes in
taekwondo, a Korean martial art. We provide a traditional martial arts program,
with students gaining knowledge in self-defense fighting techniques, meditation,
and, for more advanced students, martial arts healing techniques. Classes are
geared to all ages and abilities. The program is led and primarily taught by a
master level instructor. Rank promotion tests, leading to black belt and level
and beyond, are provided on a regular basis.
The martial arts is neither a sport nor a hobby. It is a way of life. Our
philosophy at the OMAC is to use the Martial Arts as a means of enabling an
individual to achieve his or her full potential mentally, physically,
spiritually, and emotionally. In addition to learning basic skills of fighting
and self-defense, students of our Moogongryu system, our students will develop
and strength their mind, body, spirit, and emotions.
The OMAC system has been developed from nearly 40 years of teaching experience
of our founder, Grandmaster Joon P. Choi, and others in the OMAC. Our schools
are nationally and internationally known with schools in the United States,
Canada, South America, Asia, and Europe. OMAC originated from the famous school
of Song Moo Kwan in South Korea, one of the oldest and most prestigious martial
arts schools in the world. Song Moo Kwan is led by Supreme Grand Master Byung
Jik Ro, the teacher of Grandmaster Joon P. Choi.
The President of
Korea appointed Master Choi to the Peaceful Reunification of Korea Committee,
the highest honor for a Korean not elected to government.
